Salomon Vancouver Brand Store Business Cards (Client)

What was the Problem: While the team at the West Vancouver location was embracing changes internally with new faces and various role changes, the store itself was needing a small but impactful visual refresh that complemented these changes. As the environment and team shifted, the pre-existing business cards did not speak to the local community and clientele anymore. It did not communicate the welcoming feeling and awesome customer service the team has been known for.

What was my Solution: The objective of the redesign was to give the cards more of a personal touch and a region-specific look and feel. The Salomon brand store is situated at Park Royal Shopping Centre in West Vancouver, B.C. It is located right by the North Shore Mountain Range, which is recognized as an iconic part of Vancouver’s skyline. Through exploration and discussion with the team members, I recognized that each member had wanted something a little different from one another but still had a connection overall. Based on the conversation with the team,  the consensus was to keep the design local and relatable as we are the only brand store in Vancouver (now North America). One colleague spoke about incorporating the sunset as he loves the vibrant colours of the sky while commuting home on a warm summer evening. Another colleague had mentioned the beautiful skies against the mountain on an early morning hike up the mountain and another mentioned just how nice the city is on a blue and clear day.

With that conversation in mind, I proposed to design the cards to reflect some of the different times of the day that most resonated with the team. In addition, I had included the city’s recognizable skyline along with the Vancouver specific brand store Salomon logo as it will resonate with the team and customers more closely. With the store located within such a special community, it was important the design aimed to be inclusive to the outdoor, hiking, trail running, and winter sports community in a welcoming and personal-to-the-store feel.

What did I Learn: It was fun to be able to be a part of making something unique that gets used frequently by the team. The Vancouver team, from when I first started to where I am now have been supportive, patient, welcoming - just like family. I appreciated the opportunity to be able to contribute my expertise to the store on a different level. As this was the first design work I was able to do for the store, I had the opportunity to understand the brand a bit more and their branding guidelines.
